You've seen my DIY postbag on the blog several times and I decided to make it again and photograph the steps for you.
What do you need?
- Fabric for the outside and lining
- 2 matching colors of thread
- Sewing machine
- Pencil
- Pins
- Scissors
- 4 big chains (for the handles)
- Handles (you can also make them yourself)
Here we go!
The pattern. You have to mirror the right side panel to get the left panel. Don't worry, you're going to see this on the following photos!
Sew the side panels to the medium panel.
Place the two lining pieces on each other with the right sides together and sew the bottom and sides on the lines. Do the same with the outside fabric.
Put the corners of the lining "bag" together and sew them, do the same with the outside fabric.
Place the outside "bag" in the lining "bag" with the right sides together. Place the loops for your handles (I used fabric but you can also use some canvas ribbon) in between the layers with the wrong side up. Don't forget to place the chains on your loops. You don't see these on the photo because I could place mine afterwards. Sew along the top and make sure you leave a little piece open to reverse your bag. After you've turned the bag over you've got the loops on the right side so you can attach your handles to it. Close the hole you used to reverse the bag and you are done!
Tadaaaa, and this is the end result. I decorated the bag a bit with a red ribbon and little bow but you don't have to do this ofcourse. You can also choose to put some pockets in or on the bag but that's your own choice! Hope you liked the DIY. I did the best I could to make it as clearly as possible. When you have any questions, feel free to ask!
